Tekke Turkmen Chyrpy (Chapan)
CH2: silk

This chapan ( known by its Turkmen name Chyrpy) is made by the same Tekke tribe that wove the large main carpet (R 3). It is probably one of the finest examples of late 19th century Turkmen embroidery. The combination of silk-on-silk construction, sophisticated chain stitch work, and the completeness of the decorative fringe make it exceptionally rare. It dates from the end of the 19th century.
It would have been worn as a bridal coat or for special occasions or ceremonies.
