This is an outstanding suzani from the late 19th/earlier 20th century from Bukhara. It reflects a classic layout with large-scale floral medallions arranged across the field. The dominant motifs are stylized pomegranates and circular floral forms in vibrant reds, oranges, and coral tones. These are set against a cream or off-white cotton ground fabric.
The design shows the characteristic Central Asian interpretation of Persian garden imagery, with flowing vines, smaller floral infills, and dynamic curved stems connecting the major elements. A striking feature is the light blue scroll vines in the centre of the field. The light blue is almost certainly derived from indigo. The particular shade suggests it may have been diluted or possibly mixed with other elements to achieve this softer, turquoise-leaning tone, rather than the deep navy also visible in the piece. The piece is clearly influenced by the Persian garden tradition with the pomegranate motif is symbolic of fertility, abundance, and protection.
